    SUBMIT A STORY

    Leave a record.

True encounters, unexplained events, mysteries and original horror fiction are welcome.

For privacy, change identifying details when needed. Do not submit private addresses, passwords, financial information or confidential records.

    Before You Submit Your Story

Before you submit your story, identify what kind of record you are offering. A firsthand encounter, original fiction and a researched mystery make different claims. State the category clearly, even when the story uses a realistic voice or an ambiguous ending. A frightening scene does not need to be presented as a true event to belong in the archive.

For an experience, explain the sequence and distinguish what you directly observed from what you later inferred or heard from someone else. For fiction, give the reader a clear point of view and enough context to follow the events. For a researched case, include useful source information and keep documented details separate from speculation.

When you submit your story, protect private people. Remove passwords, private addresses and identifying details that are not needed to understand the account. If a name has been changed, make that clear in the editor note. Tell the editor which parts of the account are uncertain rather than filling gaps with details you do not remember.

Read the editorial policy before sending the material, and keep a copy of the text you submit. A focused note about classification, source context and privacy is more useful than a long explanation of why the story should sound frightening.

    Submit Your Story FAQ

Common questions before you send a record. Open a question below for the details.

What kinds of stories can I submit?

Darkrecord accepts true scary stories, paranormal experiences, unexplained events, mysteries and original horror fiction. A submission should make clear whether you are describing something you personally experienced, sharing research, or sending an invented story.

What should I include in a true scary story or personal encounter?

Describe the event in the order you remember it. Specific details such as the general setting, approximate time and what happened before and after the key moment can make an account easier to understand. Do not invent extra details to make the story more frightening. A personal account can be compelling without being presented as independently verified proof.

Can I submit original horror fiction?

Yes. Original horror fiction is welcome. Mark it clearly as fiction and submit work you have the right to share. Psychological horror, short horror stories and twist-ending stories can all fit the archive when they are original and readable.

How should I protect personal information?

Do not include passwords, financial information, medical records, private addresses or other sensitive details that are not necessary for the story. Consider using a pseudonym or generalized location if identifying a person or exact place would create a reasonable privacy or safety concern. Review the Privacy Policy before sending material that contains personal information.

What happens after I submit my story?

Submission does not guarantee publication. A story may be declined, held for later review or edited for spelling, grammar, structure and readability while preserving the intended meaning. The Editorial Policy explains the standards used to label, source and correct published material. If you need to ask a question before submitting, use the Contact page.
