True Scary Stories
Read true scary stories and first-person accounts of frightening encounters, unexplained events and real moments that still resist an ordinary explanation.
READING GUIDE
Reading true scary stories with their context intact
The most unsettling part of a personal account is often an ordinary detail: the time a door opened, the words a stranger used, or a sound that returned after the house fell quiet. Start with the account itself, then consider what the writer could observe and what remains an interpretation. A vivid memory and a verified explanation are different things.
Nighttime encounters focus on situations after dark. Creepy encounters follow troubling meetings with people or intruders. Unexplained events collect experiences that resist a straightforward explanation. A record may use a pseudonym for privacy. Its content label should still tell you whether you are reading personal testimony, researched reporting or invented horror. If you want a story whose events were created by its author, the Horror Fiction archive offers that separate reading path.
